Perhaps the TV channels won't print these. The charts don't seem to have changed all that much. Is the Jan 13th. top 10 one of the poorest ever? |

Dave E. So, "singers" are now exempt from singing if they dance? Tell that pathetic excuse to people who care, like a kindergarten. The fact that Steps fans don't care about live singing as long as they see five "gimps" prancing around to a backdrop exposes groups of that ilk as being nothing to do with music. Listen to music with your ears, not your eyes. That said, I'm glad to see a band releasing a best of who merit one, the Manics. Mull Historical Society's album is superb too. |
Er I guess the fact that these acts don't actually PLAY anything means they have to do something! Its not really fair though, when you go to a "live concert" which is basically the group dancing to their own recordings! Those recordings may have been "tarted up" so much in production that a live version would differ, even vocally! See also the next two posts. As regards Mull Historical Society. I just got the album and it really IS excellent! For once sleeve stickers are 100% correct! |

Mercury Rev's new single "The Dark is Rising" is a classic, destined to be remembered as a masterpiece of a love song for years to come. Is it too much to hope that it gets to number 1 and restores some sanity back to the charts? |
I heard Cinerama on John Peel, and thought they were amazing. Anyone got any info, or can recommend an album to start with? Void:- Fronted by ex Wedding Present singer David Gedge, they've made two albums - we'd go for Disco Volante. |

Who agrees we need a wider range of radio networks? It works in the US, with all its specialist music stations, so why not here? It's better than having all those "blandies" pumped at us. |

Agreed entirely here. There is more variation on Radio 3 than on Radio 1 at weekends. Are there not stations on the Net too.(Hum) If you have the right phone connection I guess! Stuff the playlists! Terry Wogan's comment earlier is well and truly on the point! |

Guess which acts' music is still listened to today from the above? As for the "real bands play their instruments" view, Beach Boy's Pet Sounds is one of the most revered albums, but it's all session musos who play the instruments. |

I was around to hear those acts too, and yes, there was the argument. As to how "serious" the Progressive Bands you cite were, I guess that's a matter of opinion. I can say that almost all are already on this site or in my collection! As regards who played. Well I guess the "Pet Sounds" album was session musos, but in that case who actually wrote the music? The non - players today are also non writers! That sorta compounds the grouse against them! |
